Lugano is situated in Ticino, the italian-speaking part of Switzerland, close to the Italian border.
The city is well connected, both with regards to motorway as well as railway networks, and it has several airports in the surroundings.

By car:
Lugano is served by the motorway axis that directly connects Northern Europe to the Mediterranean: non rush hour travel time on the A2 Motorway from Lugano is approximately 45 minutes to Milan and 2 hours to Zurich.
All vehicles traveling on the Swiss highway must be equipped with the Highway Vignetta, that allows vehicles to use on the entire Swiss highway system. Highway passes are sold at any Swiss Customs office at the price of CHF 40.

By train:
Traveling by train in Switzerland is easy and reliable. Lugano lies right on the North-South axis, with trains running between Milan (40 minutes to 1 hour) and Zurich (2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours) every hour. Please visit for prices, timetables and online bookings.

By plane:
Lugano-Agno (LUG) airport is served by domestic flights departing from Geneva and Zurich (ZRH), the Swiss most important international airport.
The train connection from Zurich airport (about 220 km from Lugano) is an efficient and pleasant option: with the opening of the New Rail Link through the Alps in December 2016, the journey to Lugano was shortened to about 2 hours. Please visit for prices, timetable and online bookings.
Different bus connections are available to and from Milan-Malpensa (MXP), the closest international airport (about 60 km from Lugano).
For prices, timetables and online bookings of the different bus companies, please visit
Lugano ServiziGiosy Tours or Società Privata Trasporti.
The other nearby airports are Milan-Linate (LIN) and Bergamo-Orio al Serio (BGY) airports, both in Italy, connected to Milan by bus and then to Lugano by train.

Private transports and services:
Amiconi Consulting SA can be contacted to arrange private transfer services from and to the airports (Milan-Linate, Milan-Malpensa, Bergamo-Orio al Serio and Lugano-Agno) and in the city of Lugano and its surroundings, for both individuals and groups.
